Together, we came just 35 votes short of the 50% mark in the final count. I am honoured by your support for me, and my vision for the Yukon. And a special ‘thank you’ to my campaign team for the many hours you spent helping me.

This leadership race demonstrated the health and growing strength of the Yukon Party.

I received the 3rd highest number of votes of any leadership candidate in Yukon Party history – but came second to a strong candidate who had even more support.

We had a record high number of Yukon Party members for a leadership election, and a 96% voter turnout. This growing wave of support and interest in the Yukon Party is great to see, and a good sign that many Yukoners are ready for a change in government.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this election happen, and congratulations again to Currie and his team.

As I said during the leadership campaign, I am committed to continuing to serve as MLA for Lake Laberge, and to running in the next territorial election. I look forward to working with Currie and Linda as part of a strong Yukon Party team.

Please join me in supporting Currie as our new Leader of the Yukon Party, and in helping him build the team and the platform for the next territorial election.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://bradcathers.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Caring-Fiscally-Conservative-Government-Ad.png” Yukoners value a strong diversified economy, the peace and beauty of the wilderness, quality health care, a good education system, an effective social safety net, and infrastructure that meets the needs of our homes and communities.”

First elected in 2002, he has been re-elected three times, gaining the support of more voters in every election in the last ten years. In 2016, he received the fourth highest number of votes of any candidate in the entire Yukon – and the most for any Yukon Party candidate.

“My track record of success is due to listening to Yukoners, and working with public servants to turn goals in to actions,” noted Cathers. “If elected as your Leader, we will build our election platform with grassroots input from people across the Yukon, and focus on winning public confidence to form a Yukon Party majority government.”

“A government under my leadership will work with First Nations, municipalities, local advisory councils, and the federal government to ensure that the Yukon’s future is bright,” stated Cathers. “We will be a caring, fiscally conservative government that respects the rights and freedoms of every Yukon citizen.”

Brad’s family moved to the Yukon when he was two years old, and to the wilderness on the east side of Lake Laberge when he was six. His family home at Lake Laberge has no road access, and he grew up with a wilderness lifestyle including hauling water by hand in buckets from a creek, cutting firewood, hiking, canoeing, boating, and dog mushing.

Before being elected MLA and for a few years after, Brad worked in the private sector and was part-owner of a wilderness tourism business. His experience in government includes serving in Cabinet for 8 ½ years. He has served as Minister of Health and Social Services; Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources; Minister of Community Services; Minister of Justice; Minister for Yukon Development Corporation; Minister for Yukon Energy Corporation; Minister for Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board; Minister for Yukon Liquor Corporation and Yukon Lottery Commission, and as Government House Leader. He is 42 years old, and lives in the Lake Laberge area.

-30-

Contact:

Rosie Sandulak
Official Agent
(867) 667-6337

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.4.5″][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.4.5″][et_pb_image src=”https://bradcathers.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Bio-Experienced-Principled-Leadership-for-a-Bright-Future.png” title_text=”Bio – Experienced, Principled Leadership for a Bright Future” url=”http://www.bradcathers.ca” _builder_version=”4.4.5″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.22″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.4.3″ locked=”off”]

To read Brad’s press release about this, please click the photo above.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ fullwidth=”on” _builder_version=”3.19.9″ global_module=”151″][et_pb_fullwidth_image src=”https://bradcathers.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/calm-evening-landscape-lake-laberge-yukon-canada-PGXESY3.jpg” _builder_version=”3.19.9″][/et_pb_fullwidth_image][/et_pb_section]

Congratulations to my friend Currie Dixon on his election as the new Leader of the Yukon Party, and to my friend Linda Benoit on her campaign.
